Shopify Sidekick, the assistant in your Shopify admin, can work with Notify Me! for you. Ask it in plain language and it opens the right Notify Me! page with your request already filled in — you review the change and save or send it yourself. This article shows what you can ask Sidekick to do and what to expect.
Before you start
Sidekick is available in your Shopify admin (the Sidekick icon at the top of the admin).
Notify Me! is installed. The actions follow your current plan: anything your plan doesn't include (for example partial payment on pre-orders, or SMS on the subscription form) isn't filled in, and the page or Sidekick tells you why.
Sidekick never saves or sends anything on its own. Nothing changes in your store until you click Save (or Send manual notification) on the Notify Me! page.
Ask Sidekick
Open Sidekick and describe what you want. For example:
"Put my Winter Jacket on pre-order with a 20% deposit, shipping on December 1"
"Notify the customers waiting for my 3 most requested products"
"Change the subject of my back-in-stock email to It's back in stock!"
"Hide the phone number field on my back-in-stock subscription form"
Sidekick opens the Notify Me! page and tells you what it filled in. While the page is open, you can keep asking for changes — for example "change the deposit to 30%" or "also add my Rain Boots to this offer".
Set up a pre-order offer
Sidekick opens Create new offer with the product's variants under Applies to and the offer name, deposit, discount and ship date you asked for. Review the offer and click Save.
After you save, ask Sidekick for another change in the same conversation and it updates the same offer instead of creating a new one.
Notify customers waiting for a product
Sidekick opens your back-in-stock Demanding products list, selects the waiting products — one product you named, or your most requested ones — and opens Select the channels for manual back-in-stock notification. Pick the channels and click Send manual notification.
Edit your back-in-stock email
Sidekick opens the back-in-stock email editor with the new subject, heading or text filled in and the Contents section open, so you see the change in the live preview. Click Save to keep it, or Discard to drop it.
Edit your back-in-stock subscription form
Sidekick opens the subscription form editor with the new texts filled in — form title, button text, field labels, placeholders and error messages — and can show or hide the email, SMS or push field. Check the live preview and click Save.
Tips
Name the product the way it appears in your store. If Sidekick has to ask which product you meant, it may need to open the page again.
To change something on a page Sidekick already opened, just ask — there's no need to start over.
Refreshing the page clears the changes Sidekick filled in, like any unsaved edit. A saved offer stays saved.
Sidekick can also answer questions without opening a page, like "How many customers are waiting for my Winter Jacket?" or "What are my most wishlisted products?".
Troubleshooting
The Save button is disabled on the offer — a product can only be in one active offer. The page shows "Some of the products are included in other active offers." Remove that product, or deactivate the other offer.
"Only rows on the first page were selected." — Sidekick selects from the first page of the list (up to 30 rows). Review the list for more waiting requests before sending.
"No matching waiting requests were found on the first page of the list." — nobody is waiting for that product right now, or it isn't on the first page. Search for it in the list.
"Some requested changes could not be applied." — a requested change isn't included in your plan, or would hide every contact field. Review the form before saving; at least one of email, SMS or WhatsApp stays visible.
Sidekick can't change the email texts — your back-in-stock email uses a custom HTML template. Edit the template on the page instead.
