With Notify Me!, you can choose which variants in your store can be added to the wishlist. By default, customers can wishlist any product variant; if you want to hide the wishlist button on certain variants — gift cards, discontinued colorways, one-of-a-kind items — you can exclude them with a few clicks.
Where to find the setting
Open your Notify Me! dashboard
Go to Wishlist > Settings
Locate the Applies to card
The card has two options:
All products — every variant in your store can be wishlisted (default)
Exclude specific variants — pick variants to hide the wishlist button on
Option 1: All products
Select All products if you want the wishlist button to appear on every product in your store.
This is the default setting. No manual selection is required, and every variant remains eligible to be added to a customer’s wishlist.
Option 2: Exclude specific variants
Select this option if you want to hide the wishlist button on certain variants. This is useful for:
Gift cards
Discontinued colorways or sizes
One-of-a-kind items you do not want resaved
Products that will not be restocked
How to exclude variants
Select Exclude specific variants
Click Edit
A product selection window opens.
From here, you can:
Search products by name
Filter products
Expand a product to select individual variants
After making your selections:
Click Add
Click Save
Once saved, the card shows the number of excluded variants. The wishlist button is hidden on those variants on your storefront within seconds.
Understanding products vs variants
The exclusion list is tracked at the variant level. If a product has multiple variants (for example, different sizes or colors), you can exclude each one individually.
That is why the count reads "3 variants are excluded" rather than "3 excluded products" — three variants might belong to a single product, or to three different products.
What customers see
On product pages of excluded variants, the wishlist button does not appear. If a customer switches the variant selector to a non-excluded variant of the same product, the button appears for that variant.
Customers who already wishlisted a variant before you excluded it keep that item in their wishlist. They can still see it on their wishlist page and remove it manually, but they cannot re-add it.
Troubleshooting
The wishlist button is still showing on an excluded variant — make sure you clicked Save, then reload the storefront page. Storefront updates take a few seconds to propagate.
I cannot see the Edit button — your plan may not include variant exclusion. Click the lock icon on the card to upgrade.
A variant I excluded yesterday no longer appears in the picker — Shopify’s variant picker only shows variants that still exist in your catalog. If you deleted the product or variant in Shopify, it is silently dropped from the exclusion list the next time you save.
