Migrating to the new Klaviyo integration

Move from the old API-key Klaviyo integration to the new secure sign-in — alerts keep sending the whole time.

If you connected Klaviyo to Notify Me! using a private API key (the old contact-sync integration), a one-time reconnect moves you to the new secure integration. This guide shows what's changing, why your alerts are never interrupted, and how to finish the move.

If you have never connected Klaviyo before, see How does the Klaviyo integration work? instead.

What's changing

The new integration keeps everything the old one did and adds to it — nothing you rely on goes away:

Old integration (legacy)

New integration

How you connect

Pasted a Klaviyo private API key

One-click secure sign-in with Klaviyo — no keys to copy

Syncing shoppers to a Klaviyo list

✅ Yes

Still yes — shoppers who opt in with marketing consent are added to your "Notify Me - Back in Stock" list, just as before

Sending events for Klaviyo Flows

❌ Not available

New — "Back in Stock", "Pre-order Confirmed" and more, for your own branded Flows

Who sends the alert email

Notify Me! always sent it

You choose: keep Notify Me! sending, or hand the email off to Klaviyo

⚠️ Your alerts keep sending the whole time — and stay with Notify Me! unless you say otherwise. Reconnecting does not interrupt notifications and does not hand your emails to Klaviyo. Emails are handed off to Klaviyo only if you explicitly choose that in the last setup step.

Before you start

  • Have your Klaviyo login handy (or be signed in already).

  • The Klaviyo integration is available on eligible plans — if yours doesn't include it, the Klaviyo page shows an upgrade link.

Step 1: Open the Klaviyo page

In the Notify Me! admin, go to Settings → Integrations and open Klaviyo. If you're on the old integration, the page shows an "Action required" badge and this banner:

Action required: migrate to the new Klaviyo integration — Your Klaviyo is connected the old way (contact sync). To send your customer emails through Klaviyo, connect the new secure integration below. Your lists, subscribers, and history are preserved, and your current contact sync keeps working until you finish.

Step 2: Reconnect with secure sign-in

The "Move your Klaviyo integration to secure sign-in" checklist walks you through the whole move. The first step is the migration itself — click Reconnect Klaviyo.

You'll be taken to Klaviyo to authorize Notify Me!. Review the permissions and approve.

You'll land back on the Klaviyo page with a Connected badge. That's the migration done — Notify Me! automatically retires the old API-key connection in the background. Contact syncing continues without interruption through the new secure connection; there is nothing to clean up.

Step 3: Finish the checklist (optional, skippable)

Reconnecting is the only required step. The remaining steps are optional — each has a Skip for now — and Notify Me! keeps sending your alerts even if you skip them all:

  1. Build your Klaviyo Flows — create the Flows that turn Notify Me! events into your branded emails. See Building Klaviyo flows for Notify Me! alerts. Note the guardrail shown in the step: flows are forward-only — they send for events that happen after the flow is Live; past subscriptions are not replayed.

  2. Send test events to try your flows — push a sample event into Klaviyo so you can watch your flow fire and preview the email.

  3. Choose who sends your customer emails — keep Notify Me! as the sender, or switch sending to Klaviyo. This step comes last on purpose: build and test your flows before you flip the sender.

⚠️ Build your flows before you flip the sender. The moment Klaviyo becomes the sender, Notify Me! stops emailing — if no flow is live yet, events arrive in Klaviyo but no email goes out.

🔴 One duplicate risk to avoid: don't build a Klaviyo flow triggered by "Added to list: Notify Me - Back in Stock" that emails the shopper — it runs in addition to the alert path. Trigger alert flows on the Notify Me! metrics (events); use the list only for marketing campaigns.

What stays the same

  • Back-in-stock and pre-order alerts keep sending without interruption.

  • Shoppers who opt in on your subscriber form are still added to your Klaviyo list.

  • Your reports, limits, and customization are unchanged.

FAQ

Will my shoppers notice anything during the migration? No. Reconnecting is invisible to shoppers, and alerts keep sending throughout.

If I keep Notify Me! as the sender, can I still build Klaviyo flows for my alerts? Alert events are only sent to Klaviyo when Klaviyo is your chosen sender, so metric-triggered flows won't fire while Notify Me! is sending. The Send test event buttons work in either mode, so you can build and test flows first, then flip the sender.

Do I have to switch sending to Klaviyo? No. Reconnecting is the only required step. You can keep Notify Me! as the sender indefinitely.

What happens to the contacts I already synced to Klaviyo? They stay in Klaviyo — nothing is deleted, and new consenting shoppers keep flowing into the same list.

Can I go back to the old integration? No — the API-key integration is being retired. The new integration is a superset of what the old one did.
