How does the Klaviyo integration work?

Connect Klaviyo to Notify Me! to power your back-in-stock and pre-order alerts with Klaviyo — sync opted-in shoppers to a Klaviyo list, and optionally let Klaviyo send the alert emails through your own Klaviyo Flows.

Connecting alone changes nothing about who sends your emails. Notify Me! keeps sending your alerts exactly as before — emails are handed off to Klaviyo only if you explicitly choose Klaviyo as the sender (covered below).

What the integration does

  1. Add shoppers to a Klaviyo list. When a shopper opts in on your subscriber form (marketing consent), Notify Me! subscribes them to a dedicated Klaviyo list — "Notify Me - Back in Stock" — so you can market to them. This works in any sender mode.

  2. Send alert events to Klaviyo (when Klaviyo is your chosen sender). Every alert — back in stock, pre-order confirmed or delayed — is sent to Klaviyo as an event instead of a Notify Me! email, and your Klaviyo Flow sends the email. The exception is the Send test event button, which works any time the connection is healthy.

Requirements

  • An eligible Notify Me! plan (the Klaviyo page shows an upgrade link if your plan doesn't include it).

  • A Klaviyo account you can sign in to.

Connecting Klaviyo

  1. Go to Settings → Integrations and open Klaviyo.

  1. Click Connect Klaviyo, sign in to Klaviyo, and authorize Notify Me!.

  2. You'll return to the Klaviyo page with a Connected badge and a short setup checklist ("Finish setting up Klaviyo sending").

The connection uses secure sign-in — there are no API keys to copy or store. You can revoke it any time from Klaviyo or by clicking Disconnect here.

Already using the old API-key Klaviyo integration? See Migrating to the new Klaviyo integration — the page will show an "Action required" banner until you reconnect.

What to do

Connected

Everything is working.

Nothing — you're set.

Action required

You have a legacy (API-key) connection that needs upgrading.

Click Reconnect. See the migration guide.

Connection error

The secure sign-in expired or was revoked.

Click Reconnect with Klaviyo.

Your shoppers are protected if the connection expires. If Klaviyo is your sender and the connection expires, Notify Me! automatically falls back to sending the alert emails itself — shoppers keep getting notified (from Notify Me!'s templates, not your flows) until you reconnect. We also email you when this happens.

Choosing who sends the alert email

Go to Settings → Notifications — the Customer notifications card at the top. The Email provider selector offers:

  • Notify Me! (default). Notify Me! sends your back-in-stock / pre-order emails exactly as it always has. Klaviyo is used for contact/consent syncing; alert events are not sent in this mode.

  • Third-party sender (Klaviyo). Notify Me! automatically stops sending the alert email and instead fires an event to Klaviyo; your Klaviyo Flow sends the email. Exactly one path sends — you can't get one email from each.

Notes:

  • You can only pick the third-party sender once you have a healthy Klaviyo connection — otherwise the option is disabled.

  • ⚠️ Build and turn on your flows before switching. Once Klaviyo is the sender, Notify Me! stops emailing — if no flow is live yet, events arrive in Klaviyo but no email goes out. Test first, then flip.

  • SMS and WhatsApp notifications are always provided by Notify Me! — the selector only governs the email channel.

  • Notify Me! unsubscribes are honored either way. A shopper who unsubscribed via a Notify Me! email link is skipped before anything is sent — no email, and no event to Klaviyo.

The subscriber-form consent checkbox

Adding shoppers to your Klaviyo list is always the shopper's opt-in: as they sign up for an alert they see a consent checkbox (e.g. "Notify me about other news or offers too"), and only shoppers who tick it are subscribed to your "Notify Me - Back in Stock" Klaviyo list.

You enable it — nothing is added to your storefront automatically. After you connect Klaviyo, the Klaviyo page shows a reminder banner with a link to the subscriber form; go to Back in stock → Customization → Subscriber form → set the Email marketing consent field to Show (you can also customize its label). Until you do, your form is unchanged. (Shops that were already collecting consent through an integration keep their checkbox exactly as it is.)

  • Shoppers who don't tick the box are not added to your marketing list. They still receive their back-in-stock alert.

  • The Klaviyo-page reminder is dismissible and disappears once the field is shown.

  • New profiles can take a minute or two to appear in Klaviyo — the subscription is processed as a background job on Klaviyo's side.

Using the list in your campaigns

Everyone in "Notify Me - Back in Stock" asked to hear about restocks and gave marketing consent — a high-intent audience for your Klaviyo campaigns and segments. The list is created automatically the first time it's needed.

The events Notify Me! sends

When Klaviyo is your chosen sender, the "Events sent to Klaviyo" card on the Klaviyo page lists every event, with the data each one carries:

Event (metric)

When it fires

Subscribed to Back in Stock

A shopper signs up to be notified — sent only if your subscription-confirmation email channel is enabled

Back in Stock

A product a shopper subscribed to is available again

Back in Stock Reminder

The follow-up reminder when a subscriber hasn't purchased and the item is still available

Pre-order Confirmed

A shopper places a pre-order

Pre-order Delayed

A confirmed pre-order's expected ship date changes

Each event fires under the same conditions the matching Notify Me! email would have been sent (channel enabled, shopper not unsubscribed, within plan limits), and carries product details (name, variant, image, URL, price, dates) you can drop straight into your Klaviyo email. Full details: Building Klaviyo flows for Notify Me! alerts. For background on how back-in-stock flows work on Klaviyo's side, see Klaviyo's own guide: How to build a back in stock flow.

Sending a test event

Each event row has a Send test event button. Enter an email address you control — a real inbox, not a made-up one — and Notify Me! pushes a sample of that row's event (testing the reminder row sends a "Back in Stock Reminder" event, and so on). The sample is built from a real product in your store, so you can watch your flow fire and preview the email with your own product data; if your store has no products yet, placeholder sample data is used instead. If no Klaviyo profile exists for that email, Klaviyo creates one from the event.

Test events work in any sender mode, so you can fully verify flows before switching sending to Klaviyo.

⚠️ Don't test with placeholder addresses like [email protected] — Klaviyo accepts the event but may silently drop it during processing, which looks like the integration is broken when it isn't.

Disconnecting

Click Disconnect on the Klaviyo page. Your Klaviyo data (lists, profiles, past events) stays in Klaviyo — disconnecting only stops Notify Me! from sending new events or subscribing new shoppers. If Klaviyo was your email sender, Notify Me! automatically reverts to sending the alerts itself.

Troubleshooting

  • The third-party sender option is disabled — you need a healthy connection first. Connect (or reconnect) Klaviyo, then choose the sender.

  • Test event doesn't appear in Klaviyo — confirm the badge shows Connected, you're looking in the Klaviyo account you authorized, and you used a real email address (placeholder domains are silently dropped by Klaviyo).

  • My flow isn't triggering for real alerts — check the sender is set to Third-party sender (Klaviyo); events are only sent in that mode. Also confirm the flow is Live (flows only act on events that arrive after they're live) and is triggered by the metric, not a list.

  • Shoppers aren't being added to my Klaviyo list — the Email marketing consent field must not be hidden on the subscriber form, and the shopper must tick it (non-consenting shoppers are intentionally not added). Also allow a minute or two: Klaviyo processes new subscriptions as a background job, so the profile doesn't appear instantly.

  • I see a legacy / action-required warning — follow Migrating to the new Klaviyo integration.
