How to Treat Orders from Other Sales Channels as Pre-orders

Count Shop app, POS, Google, Facebook and draft orders as pre-orders, and see where each pre-order came from.

Shopify shows your pre-order options only on your online store. Orders from the Shop app, POS, Google, Facebook or draft orders reach Notify Me! without them, so until now they were not recorded as pre-orders. This article shows how to turn on Orders from other sales channels so these orders are tagged, listed and confirmed like any pre-order, and how to see each pre-order's sales channel.

Before you start

  • You're on the Starter plan or above. On a lower plan the card shows a lock and an Upgrade button, and the checkbox can't be ticked.

  • PreOrder is active. When PreOrder is off, Notify Me! records no pre-orders from any channel.

  • The products you want to cover are in an active pre-order offer.

Turn on the setting

  1. In the Notify Me! app, open PreOrder and click Settings.

  2. Find the Orders from other sales channels card. It is Off by default.

  3. Tick Treat these orders as preorders, then click Save. The badge next to the card title turns On.

Which orders count as pre-orders

With the setting on, an order line counts as a pre-order when all of these are true:

  • The variant is in an active pre-order offer.

  • The variant is out of stock in Notify Me!: Continue selling when out of stock is on, inventory is tracked, and the quantity is 0 or less.

  • The order takes the variant's Shopify stock below zero.

Notify Me! then tags the order NM-preorder, lists it in your pre-order orders and sends the pre-order confirmation. If a variant is in more than one active offer, the order counts once and is linked to one of those offers.

Orders placed with the pre-order button on your online store count as pre-orders already; they don't need this setting.

What applies to these orders

  • Customers pay in full. The offer's deposit, partial payment and discount don't apply.

  • The offer's shipping date applies, and so does split fulfillment when the offer has it turned on and your plan includes it.

  • They count like any pre-order toward your pre-order limits, your maximum sales limit and transaction fees.

Orders bought with your pre-order purchase option

An order bought with your store's pre-order purchase option now counts as a pre-order automatically, even when it skipped the pre-order button on your storefront. This applies to every store and needs no setting.

See each pre-order's sales channel

Open PreOrder, then Orders. The Sales channel column, right after Offer, shows where each pre-order came from (for example Online Store or Draft Orders), as Shopify names it. The same column appears in the recent pre-orders list on the PreOrder page and in the CSV export.

For a pre-order caught by this setting, the offer name is underlined. Hover over it to see what applies: "Ordered from {channel}. Paid in full; this offer's shipping date and split fulfillment apply."

Tips

  • Pre-orders recorded before this update show Not recorded in the Sales channel column. The channel is saved only for new pre-orders.

  • The confirmation goes out only when the pre-order confirmation is turned on and the order has a customer email or phone number. A POS or draft order without one gets no confirmation.

  • If your plan no longer includes this setting, it turns off automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • A POS or draft order wasn't recorded as a pre-order — check that the setting is On, the variant is in an active offer with Continue selling when out of stock on, and the order took its stock below zero. If the variant was restocked within a few minutes of the sale, the order isn't caught.

  • The checkbox is locked — the setting needs the Starter plan or above. Click Upgrade to see your options.
