How to Set Up Partial Payments for Pre-orders

Enable partial payment options for pre-orders using the Notify Me app, allowing customers to pay a portion upfront and the rest later.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Partial payments allow your customers to pay a deposit for a pre-ordered item, with the remaining balance due at a later date. This can help increase conversions for higher-priced items.

⚠️ Partial payment features are only available on the Paid Plan.

To configure:

How to Configure Partial Payments for an Offer

The Partial Payment setting is configured within each Pre-order Offer. This allows you to enable it for specific campaigns (e.g., a "Black Friday Offer") while keeping full payment for others (e.g., your "Default Offer").

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Navigate to the PreOrder Dashboard
From your Shopify Admin, open the PreOrder app.

  2. Select the Offer to Configure
On the dashboard, click on the name of the offer you wish to configure. This can be your Default Offer or any custom offer you have created.

  3. Access the Billing Policy Section
This will open the offer's edit page. Scroll down to the Billing Policy section within the "Pre-order Logics."

  1. Enable and Configure Partial Payment

    • Select the Partial Payment option.

    • Set the initial payment: Choose to charge either a percentage (e.g., 50%) or a fixed amount (e.g., $20) at checkout.

    • Set the due date for the remaining balance: You can specify an exact calendar date or set a relative time (e.g., 14 days after the order is placed).

[New Screenshot: The offer configuration page with the "Billing Policy" section expanded and highlighted, showing the percentage/fixed amount and due date options.]

  2. Save Your Changes
Click the Save button in the top right corner. Partial payments are now active for all products included in this specific offer.

Configure Partial Payment Terms

To enable partial payments:

  1. In Billing Policy, select Partial Payment.

  2. Set the initial payment:

    • Choose a percentage (e.g., 20%), or

    • Enter a fixed amount (e.g., $10) to be paid at checkout.

  3. Set the due date for the remaining balance:

    • Specify an exact date, or

    • Use the clock icon to define a relative time (e.g., 14 days after the order date).

This setup ensures customers pay part of the total upfront and the rest later, based on your chosen schedule.

Checkout Experience for Customers

When partial payment is enabled, the following will be shown during checkout:

  • Upfront Payment Amount – the exact percentage due now.

  • Remaining Balance – the amount due and the payment deadline.
