How Notify Me! Works

Notify Me! is a Shopify app that turns out-of-stock moments into sales and helps you stay engaged with shoppers who care about your products. This article explains what each of the four modules does, who Notify Me! is for, and how the pieces fit together with Shopify.

What Notify Me! does

Notify Me! has four modules. You can turn each one on or off independently inside the app, and they share a single App Embed in your Shopify theme.

Back in Stock

Back in Stock adds a Notify me button to your out-of-stock product pages. Customers leave their email, SMS, push, or WhatsApp contact, and Notify Me! sends an alert the moment you restock. Every Request is logged in the app so you can also see which products are in highest demand.

Best for stores that frequently sell out of popular items, or that want to recover lost sales from out-of-stocks.

PreOrder

PreOrder replaces the Sold Out state on out-of-stock products with a Pre-Order button so you can keep collecting orders and forecasting demand. You can require full payment, partial payment, or no payment up front, all configured per Offer. Pre-Order data tells you which products are worth restocking and how much demand exists ahead of supply.

Best for stores launching new products, dealing with supply delays, or selling limited drops where demand outstrips inventory.

Wishlist

Wishlist lets shoppers save products they like and return to them later. Logged-in customers and guests can both build wishlists. The app shows you which products customers save most often, which is one of the strongest demand signals available in your store.

Best for stores that want to lower friction for first-time visitors and build a clearer picture of customer interest.

Low Stock

Low Stock shows an "Only X left" counter on product pages when inventory drops below a threshold you set. It creates urgency on items about to sell out and pulls forward purchases that might otherwise be lost. A second optional feature emails you directly when your own stock runs low, so you can plan restocks before you sell out.

Best for stores selling fast-moving items, limited inventory, or anything where scarcity is part of the value.

Who Notify Me! is for

Any Shopify store that sells out of items, runs preorders, wants to track customer demand, or wants to create urgency at checkout. The strongest fits include:

  • High-demand stores that frequently sell out of popular items. Back in Stock is the highest-impact module here.

  • Stores launching new products or limited drops. PreOrder captures revenue and forecasts demand ahead of supply.

  • Stores with seasonal or fast-moving inventory. Low Stock pulls urgency-driven purchases forward.

  • Stores building a customer database. Wishlist plus Back in Stock together create a steady stream of first-party demand signal.

How it integrates with Shopify

Notify Me! ships as a Shopify app embed. Once installed and the App Embed is activated in your theme, the four module widgets render on the right pages automatically.

The app reads Shopify's inventory and product data to know when products are eligible (sold out, low stock, etc.) and sends notifications when status changes. Restocks made in Shopify admin trigger Back in Stock alerts. Inventory dropping below your threshold triggers Low Stock counters. Pre-Order orders flow into Shopify like any other order.

Notify Me! also connects to Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, and PushOwl so customer contact data and engagement signals can sync into your marketing stack.

  • Do I have to use all four modules?
    No. Activate only what you need. The modules don't depend on each other and you can turn them on or off at any time from each module's settings page.

  • Does Notify Me! work with my theme?
    Notify Me! works with every Online Store 2.0 theme through the Shopify app embed. Most modern themes support this. Older legacy themes (vintage themes that pre-date Online Store 2.0) don't support app embeds. If you're on a vintage theme, contact support.

  • How is Notify Me! priced?

  • Can customers receive alerts by SMS
