Set up Notify Me! across your Shopify store in about 15 minutes. Covers App Embed activation, Back in Stock, PreOrder, Wishlist, Low Stock, and sender domain verification. For new merchants completing first-time setup.
You don't have to complete all six steps in one sitting, but Step 1 (App Embed) is required before any Notify Me! widget appears on your storefront.
The 15-minute checklist
Activate the App Embed (1 min)
Turn on Back in Stock (3 min)
Run your first PreOrder (3 min)
Add a Wishlist button (2 min)
Set up Low Stock signals (2 min)
Step 1: Activate the App Embed
Notify Me! ships as a Shopify app embed. Until you turn the embed on inside your theme, none of the Notify Me!, Pre-Order, or Wishlist widgets appear on your storefront, no matter what you configure inside the app.
To activate it:
In Shopify admin, navigate to Online Store → Themes.
Click Customize on your live theme.
In the left sidebar, click the App embeds icon.
Find Notify Me! in the list and toggle it on.
Click Save in the top right.
If you don't see Notify Me! in the App embeds list, confirm the app is installed in Apps and sales channels and that your theme is Online Store 2.0. Older themes don't support app embeds.

Step 2: Turn on Back in Stock
Back in Stock adds a Notify me widget to your out-of-stock product pages. Customers leave their email, SMS, or push, and Notify Me! sends an alert the moment you restock.
To turn it on:
In Notify Me!, either navigate Dashboard or Back in Stock. Confirm the status badge reads Active. If it reads Inactive, click Activate.
Open a sold-out product on your storefront and confirm the Notify me widget appears.
Customize how the Back in stock button looks on your storefront.
Customize your Subscription form
Under Notification status, choose the channels you want to send through (Email, SMS, Push).
Customize your First back in stock notification email
For the widget to appear, the product must have inventory tracking enabled, quantity set to 0 or less, and "Continue selling when out of stock" turned off. If the widget doesn't show, check these three settings first.

Step 3: Run your first PreOrder
PreOrder replaces the Sold Out state on out-of-stock products with a Pre-Order button so you can keep collecting orders and forecasting demand. You can require full payment, partial payment, or no payment up front, all configured per Offer.
To run your first preorder:
In Notify Me!, navigate to Dashboard or PreOrder. Confirm the status badge reads Activate. If it reads Inactive, click Activate.
Open the product on your storefront and confirm the Pre-Order button appears in place of Add to Cart.
Customize how the Preorder button looks on your storefront.
Edit your current Offer, or add new ones if you want different terms (deposits, discounts, fulfillment timing) for different products.

Step 4: Add a Wishlist button
Wishlist lets shoppers save products they like and return to them later. Logged-in customers and guests can both build wishlists, and you'll see which products get saved most often inside the app.
To activate Wishlist:
In Notify Me!, either navigate Dashboard or Wishlist. Confirm the status badge reads Active. If it reads Inactive, click Activate.
Customize how wishlist look on your product
Open any product on your storefront and confirm the Wishlist button appears.

Step 5: Set up Low Stock signals
Low Stock shows an "Only X left" widget on product pages when inventory drops below a threshold you set. It creates urgency on items about to sell out and pulls forward purchases that might otherwise be lost.
To enable Low Stock:
In Notify Me!, either navigate Dashboard or Low stock. Confirm the status badge reads Active. If it reads Inactive, click Activate.
Under Low-stock widget, choose whether to show the counter on every product or only when inventory is below a threshold you set.
Customize how the counter looks on your storefront.
Open a low-inventory product on your storefront and confirm the counter appears.
Most stores set the threshold at 3 to 5 units. Showing low stock on every product, including healthy stock, dilutes the urgency signal.
