Activate the Notify Me! App Embed

Notify Me App Embed, where everything starts.

Turn on the Notify Me! app embed inside your Shopify theme so the Back in stock, Pre-Order, Wishlist, and Low Stock widgets can appear on your storefront. Required for every merchant before any Notify Me! widget shows up.

Without this step, none of the widgets will appear on your storefront, even if you have activated and configured each module inside the app. The app embed is the bridge between the app and your storefront.

Activate the app embed

To turn the embed on:

  1. In Shopify admin, navigate to Online StoreThemes.

  2. Find your live theme and click Customize.

  3. In the theme editor's left sidebar, click the App embeds icon.

  4. In the App embeds list, find Notify Me!.

  5. Toggle Notify Me! on.

  6. Click Save in the top right of the theme editor.

You only need to do this once per theme. If you switch to a new theme later, you'll need to activate the app embed again on the new theme.

Troubleshooting

I don't see Notify Me! in the App embeds list.

Confirm three things in this order:

  1. The Notify Me! app is installed. Check Apps and sales channels in your Shopify admin. If the app is missing, reinstall it from the Shopify App Store.

  2. Your theme supports app embeds. Online Store 2.0 themes do. Older legacy themes (vintage themes from before Online Store 2.0 launched) don't. If you're on a vintage theme, contact our support team.

  3. Refresh the theme editor. Close it and reopen if the App embeds list looks out of date.

I activated the embed but the widget still doesn't show on the storefront.

The app embed is one of three conditions a widget needs to appear. The other two are module-side:

  1. The module (Back in Stock, PreOrder, Wishlist, or Low Stock) must be Active in the Notify Me! app.

  2. The product must meet the conditions for that specific widget. For Back in Stock, that means inventory tracking on, quantity at 0 or less, and "Continue selling when out of stock" turned off.

If all three are correct and you still don't see the widget, contact support.

The widget appears but looks broken or unstyled.

The app embed loads Notify Me!'s default styles. If you've heavily customized your theme's CSS, there can be conflicts. Read How to Customize the Style of Your Widget Using CSS for guidance, or contact support.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to activate the app embed for every module separately?
No. One activation covers all four modules: Back in Stock, PreOrder, Wishlist, and Low Stock.

  • Will activating the app embed slow my site down?
The embed loads without blocking your page render, and Notify Me! meets Shopify's Built for Shopify performance standards.

  • What happens if I uninstall the app? The embed automatically stops loading on your storefront. You don't need to manually remove anything from your theme.

  • Can I activate the embed on a draft theme to test it before going live? Yes. The app embed is theme-specific, so you can turn it on inside a draft theme, test against a sandbox product, and only enable it on your live theme when you're ready.
