With Notify Me!, you can decide exactly where the Back-in-Stock button appears when products are sold out. You can:
Show it on all products
Include only specific products
Exclude specific products
This gives you full control over which products collect restock subscribers and send back-in-stock notifications.
Where to Find the Setting
Open your Notify Me! dashboard
Go to the Back-in-Stock section
At the top of the page, locate the Applies to setting
Inside this section, you’ll see three options that determine where the “Notify Me” button appears.
Option 1: Show on All Back-in-Stock Products
Select All back-in-stock products if you want the button to appear on every sold-out product in your store.
This is the default setting.
When enabled:
The button appears automatically on all out-of-stock products
No manual selection is required
This option is best if you want full automation across your store.
Option 2: Include Only Specific Products
Select this option if you want the “Notify Me” button to appear only on selected products or specific variants.
This is useful when:
You only want notifications on high-demand items
You’re testing restock alerts on certain collections
You don’t want the button visible across your entire catalog
How to include specific products
Select Include specific products
Click Edit
From here, you can:
Search products by name
Filter products
Select entire products
Expand products to select individual variants
After making your selections:
Click Select
Save your settings
Once saved, you will see a confirmation showing how many variants are included.
Only the selected products or variants will display the “Notify Me” button when they are sold out. All other products will not show it.
Option 3: Exclude Specific Products
Select this option if you want the “Notify Me” button to appear on most products, but hide it from certain ones.
This is ideal for:
Limited edition items
Products that will not be restocked
Discontinued products
Items you do not want to promote
How to exclude products
Select Exclude specific products
Click Edit
A product selection window will open.
Search for and select the products or variants you want to exclude.
Click Select
Save your settings
After saving, those selected products will no longer display the “Notify Me” button when sold out. All other products will continue to show it.
You will also see a counter confirming how many variants are excluded.
Understanding Products vs Variants
You can include or exclude:
Entire products
Individual variants
The system tracks this at the variant level. That’s why you’ll see a message like:
“4 variants are included”
“2 variants are excluded”
If a product has multiple variants (for example, different sizes or colors), you can control each one individually if needed.
Troubleshooting
If the “Notify Me” button is not appearing:
Confirm the correct option is selected under Applies to
Make sure changes were saved
Check that inventory tracking is enabled in Shopify
Verify the product or variant is not excluded
If the button is appearing on the wrong product:
Review your include/exclude selections
Confirm the correct variants were selected
Double-check that only one option is active
