Why Pre-Orders Don’t Work with Shopify Bundles

Learn why Shopify bundles can’t be used with pre-orders and what alternative options are available.

Updated over a week ago

Shopify bundles are not compatible with pre-orders, subscriptions, or try-before-you-buy options.

Pre-orders require Shopify selling plans, which allow advanced settings like partial payments and scheduled fulfillment. These settings are not supported by bundle products, which prevents them from being pre-ordered.

Common Error Message

When attempting to pre-order a bundle, you may see:

“The bundle product ‘Product Name’ cannot be added to the cart.”

This happens because pre-order plans and bundles don’t work together.

Workaround Option

If you need to enable pre-orders for a bundle product, consider removing the pre-order selling plan. This will allow the bundle to be sold like a normal product, but you will lose access to the following pre-order features:

  • Configurable payment options (full or partial payments).

  • Scheduled or on-hold fulfillment.

  • Inventory reservation settings.

To make this adjustment, contact our support team, and we’ll assist you in removing the pre-order selling plans for your bundle.
