Customize your GDPR double opt-in consent email and SMS

Learn how to customize the design and text of the GDPR consent email and SMS to match your brand and language.

Before you start

Plan requirement: The GDPR double opt-in feature is available on Rocket and Notify Me Plus plans.

To use this feature, you must first have GDPR double opt-in enabled. You can verify this by navigating to Back in stockConfigurationsSubscriber's permission (GDPR Compliance) and ensuring it is active.

Customize the GDPR consent email

You can choose from four layout templates (Simple or Custom) and edit all text within the email to ensure it matches your store's language and branding.

1. Navigate to Back in stockWidgets & NotificationsNotifications.

2. Click to expand the Subscriber's permission (GDPR) section in the left sidebar.

3. Click Email.

4. In the right-hand settings panel, select your preferred layout from the template selector.

5. Expand the Header section to upload your store's logo or display your shop name.

6. Expand the Contents section to edit the text of your email. You can customize the Email subject, Email title, Email description, and Button text.

You can use dynamic variables like `{{shop_name}}` and `{{product_name}}` in your text to personalize the email for each customer.

7. Expand the Styles and Social media sections to adjust colors, fonts, and add your social links.

8. Click Save in the top right corner when you are happy with the preview.

While you can fully edit the text, including the button text, the actual link behind the "Confirm Subscription" button is automatically generated by Notify Me! to securely capture customer consent. Do not use the GDPR consent email to send promotional content or discount codes, as this violates GDPR rules and our terms of service.

Customize the GDPR consent SMS

If you have SMS notifications enabled, you can also customize the text of the double opt-in SMS message.

1. Navigate to Back in stockWidgets & NotificationsNotifications.

2. Click to expand the Subscriber's permission (GDPR) section in the left sidebar.

3. Click SMS.

4. Edit your message in the text area provided in the right-hand panel.

5. Ensure you keep the `{{consent_link}}` variable in your message. Customers must click this link to confirm their subscription.

6. Click Save.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I edit the button link in the email?

To ensure strict legal compliance with GDPR, Notify Me! must generate a unique, secure, and trackable confirmation link for every single request. Allowing this link to be changed could break the double opt-in flow.

What happens if I downgrade my plan?

If you downgrade from Rocket or Plus to a lower plan, the GDPR double opt-in feature will be disabled. Your custom templates will be saved in our system, but Notify Me! will stop sending the consent emails and will revert to single opt-in.
