What is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European privacy law established in 2018. It grants individuals more control over their personal data and how it’s used, requiring businesses to collect clear, informed consent before sending communications.

GDPR applies to any business with customers in the EU, even if your business is based elsewhere.

To help you comply, Notify Me! offers a GDPR double consent feature so you can collect your customers’ consent before sending them back-in-stock notifications.

How to Enable GDPR Consent

This feature is available on the Premium plan.

To enable it:

  1. Log in to your Notify Me! dashboard.

  2. Go to the Back in Stock tab.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. In the Back-in-stock notifications section, click Edit for the GDPR option.

  5. Enable Email and/or SMS consent.

How It Works

When a customer enters their email or phone number, they will receive an email or SMS requesting their consent to receive notifications.
You can view these requests in Back in Stock > Sent notifications.

Status: Waiting-GDPR

  • If a request shows as Waiting-GDPR, the notification will not be sent until the customer consents.

  • Once the customer clicks the consent link, the status will change to Awaiting stock, and they will receive notifications when the product is restocked.

As you can see in the image below the status of these requests is Waiting-GDPR.

When requests have the Waiting-GDPR status the notification will not be sent to your customers since they have not consented to receive back-in-stock notifications.

The email and SMS they see are something like this:

If your customers click on the link and consent to receive back-in-stock notifications from your shop the status of the request on your panel changes to Awaiting stock and they'll receive notifications upon restocking the item.

Additional notes

  • Imported requests: When you import requests, Notify Me! will automatically send GDPR consent emails to your customers. Your customers will need to give consent before they can receive back-in-stock notifications. all the requests will have the Waiting-GDPR status and will receive consent email/SMS. Here is how you can import requests.

  • Existing requests: If customers have submitted requests before enabling GDPR, all previous requests will change to Waiting-GDPR and will not receive notifications until the customer consents.

  • Disabling GDPR: If you disable this feature, all Pending GDPR requests will automatically change to Awaiting stock. You will see a warning in the panel before confirming this action.

Make sure you agree with this before pressing the Confirm button.
