How to Activate Back-in-Stock Push Notifications

Leverage Push Notification as a powerful alert for back in stock notifications.

Updated over a week ago

Web push notifications allow you to reach customers directly on their browsers, even if they aren't currently on your site. Notify Me! integrates with PushOwl to automate these alerts.

Important: Due to Shopify’s theme architecture, simply installing PushOwl is no longer enough. You must also activate the App Embed for the subscription checkbox to appear to your customers.

Adding Push Notification as a New Channel

Notify Me! provides a multi-channel approach to recovering sales, allowing you to reach customers via email, SMS, and high-conversion web push notifications. By integrating with PushOwl, we enable you to send instant browser alerts that bring customers back to your store the moment inventory is replenished.

To ensure your automated alerts are active, follow these steps to configure your notification channels:

  • Access Your Notifications: Log in to your Notify Me! dashboard and navigate to the Back in Stock tab.

  • Open Channel Settings: Click on the Settings menu to view your automated notification workflows.

  • Choose Your Alert Type: In the Back-in-stock Notifications section, you will see your active alerts, such as the First Alert Notification, Reminder, or Thank-you Message.

  • Edit the Workflow: Click the Edit button next to the specific notification you wish to enable for push alerts.

  • Select the Push Channel: Inside the editor, locate the Push Notification option alongside Email and SMS. Toggle the Push option to ON to include this channel in your automated sequence.

  • Save Changes: Click Save to confirm your updated notification strategy.

Enabling Push Notification in Subscriber Form

Step 1: Install and Set Up PushOwl

If you don't already have PushOwl, you must install it to use this feature.

  • Install the App: Search for "Brevo PushOwl" in the Shopify App Store and click Install.

  • Select a Plan: You can simply choose to Basic plan of PushOwl. The integration will completely work under the basic plan.

  • Activate Storefront: In the PushOwl welcome dashboard, click the green Activate button to begin the connection process of its App Embed.

Step 2: Connect the Notify Me! Integration

Once PushOwl is ready, you must link it to Notify Me! so the two apps can share data.

  • Navigate to Integrations: In your Notify Me! dashboard, go to Settings > Integrations.

  • Connect PushOwl: Find PushOwl in the list and click Connect.

If you ever uninstall PushOwl, Notify Me! will automatically set the integration to OFF, disable push as a sending channel, and remove the push checkbox from your forms to prevent broken customer experiences.

Step 3: Enable the Push Checkbox in your Form

Now you must add the "Push Notification" option to the "Notify Me" form that appears on your product pages.

  • Open Customizer: Go to Back in Stock > Customization.

  • Edit Subscriber Form: In the Widgets menu, select Subscriber Form.

  • Toggle Visibility: Click the eye icon next to Push notification to make it visible.

Our SDK performs a real-time check. If PushOwl's App Embed is not active, we will automatically hide this checkbox from your customers to ensure they don't see a non-functional button.

Step 4: Configure your Notification Alerts

Finally, ensure the actual alerts are scheduled to go out.

  • Edit Alerts: Go to Back in Stock > Settings > Back-in-stock Notifications.

  • Select Channels: Click Edit on your First Alert or Reminders, and ensure the Push Notification channel is checked.

  • Save: Click Save to confirm.
