Introduction

In the world of e-commerce, product restocks often spark a lot of excitement. But sending instant notifications to every customer who’s waiting for a restocked item might not always be the best strategy. The Delivery Policy feature in the "Notify Me!" app helps you send notifications in a controlled, batched way. This allows you to manage the flow of customers, optimize your site’s performance, and enhance the shopping experience. Here’s how to use it effectively.

Why Use Delivery Policy Instead of Instant Notifications?

While the traditional approach is to notify all customers immediately, there are several reasons why batching notifications is a smarter choice:

  • Controlled Traffic: Instant notifications can create a sudden spike in website traffic, which may overwhelm your server and impact the shopping experience.

  • Prioritize Customers: Choose whether long-waiting customers get priority notifications, or if newer subscribers should be alerted first.

  • Better Customer Experience: Batching notifications makes restocks feel more exclusive and adds value to your customers’ experience.

How to Set Up the Delivery Policy for First Alert Notifications

To start using the Delivery Policy feature for first alert notifications, follow these steps:

1. Switch to Advanced Mode

By default, notifications are set to automatic. To enable the Delivery Policy feature, you need to switch it to Advanced.

  • Go to the 'Back in Stock' tab in your "Notify Me!" app.

  • Click on Settings.

  • In the Back-in-stock notifications section, click Edit for the First Alert Notification. This is where you’ll find the Delivery Policy feature.

2. Configure Notification Settings

  • Prioritize Notification Sequence: Decide whether newer subscribers or long-waiting customers should be notified first.

  • Batch Size Configuration: Set the batch size based on your product inventory. For example, if you set the multiplier to 5 and your inventory is 10, the first batch will notify 50 customers. This helps match the number of notifications to the available stock.

  • Set Interval Between Batches: Choose how much time to wait between sending each batch of notifications. This ensures a steady, controlled flow of customers.

Dynamic Adjustments Based on Inventory

  1. Inventory Changes: If inventory decreases (due to purchases or other factors), the batch size adjusts accordingly. For instance, if the inventory drops to 4, the next batch will notify 40 customers instead of 50.

  1. Product Unavailability: If an item goes out of stock before all batches are sent, the remaining notifications will be paused. Customers who didn’t receive their alerts will be prioritized for the next restock.

  2. Waitlist Integration: The Delivery Policy also acts as a waitlist. If demand exceeds stock levels, customers will be added to the waitlist and notified during future restocks.

The Delivery Policy feature in the "Notify Me!" app allows you to deliver restock notifications in a strategic, controlled manner. Not only does this help you manage website traffic and inventory more efficiently, but it also improves the customer experience by making restocks feel more exclusive.
