Advanced Notification Settings for Back-in-Stock Alerts

Enable advanced Notify Me! alerts to notify customers when products are available, even without tracked inventory in Shopify.

Updated yesterday

Introduction

Notify Me! keeps your customers engaged by automatically alerting them when a product they want is back in stock. To improve this service, you can now enable advanced notification settings that align with Shopify’s flexible inventory management options.

What are Advanced Notification Settings?

Shopify allows you to sell products even when they are out of stock. By default, Notify Me! sends alerts only when inventory changes from zero to a positive number. With advanced notification settings, you can notify customers when:

  • Continue Selling When Out of Stock is enabled, allowing customers to place orders even with zero inventory. Notify Me! can send alerts letting subscribers know the product is available for purchase.

  • Track Quantity is turned off, meaning the product is always available for purchase in Shopify. Notify Me! can send alerts to customers who requested notifications for these products.

How to Enable Advanced Notification Settings

To configure these settings:

  1. Log in to your Shopify Admin Panel.

  2. Go to Apps and select Notify Me! PreOrder.

  3. In the Notify Me! dashboard, click Back in Stock.

  4. Go to Settings.

  5. Click Edit under First alert notification in the Back-in-stock notifications section.

  6. Scroll to the Advanced configuration section.

  7. Toggle on the settings you need:

    • Send Notifications When "Continue Selling When Out of Stock" is On.

    • Send Notifications When "Track Quantity" is Off.

  8. Save your changes.

Best Practices

  • Review your inventory strategy: Ensure you can fulfill orders before enabling these notifications.

  • Communicate clearly: Display availability and fulfillment times on product pages.

  • Monitor demand: Track customer interest in frequently sold-out or made-to-order products.

Conclusion

Using advanced notification settings helps you notify customers about product availability, even when traditional stock tracking is not used. This keeps customers informed, maintains interest in your products, and can increase sales for high-demand or made-to-order items.
