How WhatsApp usage is billed in Notify Me

Understand how WhatsApp charges are calculated and added to your monthly Shopify invoice.

Updated today

This article explains how WhatsApp billing works, where you can track charges, and how these fees appear on your Shopify invoice.

How WhatsApp Pricing Works

WhatsApp is a paid messaging channel in Notify Me. You are only charged for messages that are actually delivered to customers.

WhatsApp costs depend on:

  • The destination country of the customer

  • The Meta conversation category and country-specific rate

  • Your Shopify billing cycle

  • The number of WhatsApp notifications sent within that period

WhatsApp pricing is determined by Meta’s WhatsApp Business API rates and may vary by country. Since these rates are set by Meta, Notify Me cannot adjust or override them. You can see WhatsApp rates per country here.

Example

Here is an example that illustrates how WhatsApp usage may appear on your Shopify invoice.

Assume the following:

  • You installed Notify Me on June 17

  • Your Shopify billing period runs from June 8 to July 7

  • The WhatsApp rate for your customer’s country is 0.03 USD per delivered message

From June 17 to July 7, you send the following WhatsApp notifications:

  • June 18: You send a back-in-stock alert to 40 customers
    Cost: 40 × 0.03 USD = 1.20 USD

  • June 22: You send a reminder to 20 customers
    Cost: 20 × 0.03 USD = 0.60 USD

  • June 29: You send another back-in-stock alert to 55 customers
    Cost: 55 × 0.03 USD = 1.65 USD

On July 7, the end of your billing period, Shopify will invoice you for all WhatsApp activity between June 17 and July 7.

Total WhatsApp charges for the period =
1.20 USD (June 18) + 0.60 USD (June 22) + 1.65 USD (June 29)
= 3.45 USD

Charges are tracked in real time within Notify Me, but the final amount is reflected on your next Shopify invoice. For more details about how Shopify’s billing system works, refer to the Shopify Billing Overview.

Where You See WhatsApp Charges

You can monitor WhatsApp usage and charges in two places:

  1. Notify Me Dashboard

View real-time charges under the In App Charges section. This shows all WhatsApp delivery costs accumulated during your current billing period in Notify Me. [Notify Me's billing period can be completely different from your Shopify's billing period.]

  2. Shopify Invoice

At the end of your Shopify billing cycle, WhatsApp charges are grouped under usage-based fees. This is similar to how SMS, PreOrder fees, or other add-on charges appear.

You can also track your remaining monthly quota from your Notify Me settings to anticipate potential overage charges.
