How to Control Which Products Are Available for Pre-order

Learn how to exclude certain products from being available for pre-order when they go out of stock using the Notify Me app.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

You can control which products are available for pre-order in two primary ways, depending on your goal:

  • Goal 1: Enable pre-orders for most products but exclude a few.

  • Goal 2: Enable pre-orders for only a specific list of products.

Method 1: Exclude Specific Products from the Default Offer

Use this method when you want most of your out-of-stock items to be available for pre-order, with just a few exceptions.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. From your Shopify Admin, open the PreOrder app.

  2. In the offers table on the dashboard, find and click on your Default Offer.

  3. The "Applies to" setting is permanently set to all eligible products. Below this, you will find the Exclusions section.

  4. Click the Edit button in the "Applies to" card.

  5. Use the product picker to search for and select the individual products you want to exclude.

  6. Click Add, then Save your changes.

The products you selected will now be excluded from pre-orders.

Method 2: Enable Pre-orders for Only Specific Products

Use this method for targeted campaigns where you only want a specific selection of products to be available for pre-order.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Deactivate Your Default Offer
Since the Default Offer applies to all products, you must deactivate it first to prevent unwanted items from being pre-orderable. Click on the Default Offer, and on the edit page, click the Deactivate button.

  2. Create a New Offer
Return to the dashboard and click + Create Offer.

  3. Add Only the Products You Want
In the "Applies to" section of your new offer, click Edit. Select only the specific products that should be available for pre-order and click Add.

  4. Configure and Save Your New Offer
Set the rest of the Pre-order Logics and click Save.

Now, only the products included in your new, active custom offer will be available for pre-order.
